Bringing blood banking to life within practice is what she really enjoys, providing practical insight and solutions from 25 years of hands on experience.

Thurs 10:00 – 10:30 Gina Parkes – A whistle stop tour of feeding tubes ![]() Gina Parkes DipAVN (S.A.), PgDip(Vet Ed), FHEA, RVN Gina qualified as a veterinary nurse in Northern Ireland in 2008 and then gained her Diploma in Advanced Veterinary Nursing in small animals, before joining the RVC’s Queen Mother Hospital for Animals in 2011 as the Senior Medicine Nurse. Gina won the BSAVA nurse abstract award in 2015 for complications associated with intravenous catheter placement, before becoming the Head Medicine Nurse at the hospital in 2016. In 2019 Gina gained a PgCert in Veterinary Education and in July completed her post graduate diploma. She joined the RVC VN school as a educator in medical nursing and currently teaches the CertAVN in Medical nursing as a teaching fellow. Gina currently leads a team of 24 medicine nurses and has a special interest in endocrine nursing and infectious disease cases.

In 2013 she moved to London and joined the Royal Veterinary College Emergency and Critical Care team and worked as both Senior and Head ECC Nurse. In 2019 she completed a PGCert in Veterinary Education and became a member of the FHEA. In 2020 she stepped down as head nurse and back into the team to regain a focus on clinical work and mentoring the students on clinical rotations. In 2023 she joined the anaesthesia team to develop a new knowledge and skill set. She has lectured internationally, written numerous articles and also contributed to book chapters. She is on the editorial committee for The Veterinary Nurse in addition to volunteering for EVECCS.

Rob is passionate about teaching the art and science of core surgical skills to the veterinary general practitioner.

Previous to this, Lisa spent 7 years in a busy primary care practice. In 2013, Lisa was promoted to Head Anaesthesia Nurse and now leads a team of anaesthesia nurses and patient care assistants. In 2012 Lisa became board certified as a Veterinary Technician Specialist in Anaesthesia and Analgesia, and in 2020 Lisa studied for, and graduated with a Post Graduate certificate in Veterinary Education and became a member of the FHEA. Lisa has lectured on many anaesthesia topics both nationally and internationally, as well as authoring articles and has recently contributed two chapters in an anaesthesia nursing text book. Lisa has a keen interest in pain management and is passionate about promoting and inspiring nurses to learn new skills and start performing local anaesthetic techniques.

Nicola’s career has been driven by a deep commitment to supporting patients and their families through some of the most challenging moments of their lives and so her work encompasses not only clinical practice, but also research and education. Nicola specialises in chemotherapy administration, occupational safety, patient symptom management, and client emotional support. She holds a Masters Degree in Veterinary Nursing and has pursued additional certifications in oncology nursing, staying current with the latest advances in cancer care. Nicola works at The Royal Veterinary College, the largest veterinary teaching hospital in Europe, where she collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement personalised treatment plans as well as help train the veterinarians and the veterinary nurses of the future. Beyond the clinical setting, Nicola is also an advocate for nurse education, helping colleagues gain a deeper understanding of cancer treatment options and how to administer treatments safely through a variety of learning platforms. Her dedication, empathy, and clinical expertise have led to professional collaborations with colleagues across Europe, allowing her to extend her knowledge and share insites with others who also value this rewarding part of veterinary medicine.
