Cytotoxic drugs have been in use in oncology practice for decades. Most of them are administered intravenously and require reconstitution, dilution and transfer to IV bags or directly to the patient by syringe injection. Cytotoxic agents, by nature, are harmful to cancerous cells, yet they also damage healthy cells and tissues. Therefore, pharmacists and nurses who are involved in preparation and administration of chemotherapy as part of their work practice, should take precautions to eliminate or reduce exposure as much as possible.
